Kelly Services has partnered with a Leading Engine Manufacturing Organization in Fridley, MN seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to leverage expert-level knowledge of ANSI C/C++ and structured programming techniques to develop embedded engine, genset, and power electronics control system software

Job Title: Embedded Software Engineer

Work Location: Fridley, MN

Start Date: ASAP

Duration: 6 Months

Pay Rate: Negotiable based on experience

Position Type: Contract

Job Details/Requirements
  • Develop software requirements from the system requirements/design, write code, unit test, integrate, build, and maintain project software.
  • Leverages experience utilizing Matlab/Simulink to develop embedded software.
  • Links model-generated code into the embedded software environment.
  • Serves as software design lead or contributing team member on controls projects developing new controls platforms and technologies.
  • Translates system requirements into software specifications.
  • Creates labeled builds of product software. Leads execution of software life-cycle management using industry tools (PTC Integrity, Serena version manager, Bug tracker tools, etc...)
  • Provides work direction to supporting software engineers & global teams to complete software implementation, testing and analysis.
  • Review and approve work completed by cross-functional team members.
  • Track issues and corrective action status of the team, assign tasks to the team to implement design changes, and provide status reports to team leaders.
  • Develops and executes test plans for developed software and protocol stacks.
  • Troubleshoots and corrects complex problems between electronics hardware, board-support-package, and applications software.
  • Designs and troubleshooting communications firmware (Ethernet, Serial, CAN, etc..)
  • Works in a lab environment with electronics hardware and common tools: oscilloscopes, debuggers, software simulation tools, and proprietary tools.
  • Uses solid working knowledge of MS Office applications (Excel, Access, etc...) to ensure all engineering technical data from the design team is complete and accurately documented.
  • Advances the software quality of the team; instructs others in best practices, leads and participates in code-reviews.
  • Complies with, improves and creates software quality processes.

Technical Skills/Background/Experience
  • Minimum of a Bachelors' Degree is required with a Masters' being preferred.
  • Solid understanding of software development tools and fundamentals of compilers, linkers, development environments.
  • Comfortable working on advanced development projects which require rapid learning curve, innovative solution development, and application of a wide variety of tools and technologies as applied to advancing product technology in power systems embedded controls.
  • Capability and experience working under structured software development processes required; capability to create quality ad-hoc software for prototype applications is desired.
  • Experience with Ethernet, TCP/IP, networking, is desired; other protocol experience to include: IEEE61850, DNP3, Modbus TCP, DDS, SNMP, LLDDP, RSTP, etc.
  • Experience working with a real-time multi-threaded application environment is desired.
