R and D Material Science Lab Technician
About the role:
Performs a variety of hands:on material science analyses on medical device products, raw materials, and in:process materials samples in support of the companys R and D, Process Development, Manufacturing, and Quality. Primary focus is cross:sectioning, metallography, light microscopy, and mechanical testing. Interprets and evaluates the analyses in terms of accuracy and precision, and recommends corrective action where necessary. Prepares data summaries and reports of test results for internal lab customers.
Your responsibilities include:
:Collaborates with Lab Engineers and Lab internal customers to plan analytical test campaigns for material characterization or problem:solving.
:Organizes, executes, and maintains lab operations for metallography and mechanical testing including work queue, test instruments, accessories, calibrations, maintenance, and supplies.
:Performs metallography and tensile testing using computer:controlled COTS instruments, generates experiment documentation, compiles data, interprets data, and prepares summary reports.
:Performs new equipment qualifications and writes protocols, final reports, SOPs and technical documents.
:Complies with company and department SOP's while performing work and preparing documentation.
:Advises and directs other scientific technicians on work assignments and training.
What we're looking for in you:
:Minimum of two:year Technical Degree (i.e., AA, Certificate) relating to materials science, physics, or mechanical technology
:More than 5 years' experience working in a materials testing laboratory operating relevant equipment and instruments
:Minimum of 1 year of work experience in a medical device setting
:Experience with metallography and tensile testing, and with operating microscopes with digital imaging and computerized test systems
